Our Connection to Children and Adults with Disabilities
Children with Disabilities: Catherine Whitcher, M.Ed, founder of www.missioncleankids.com is a Nationwide Special Education consultant. For over 12 years, Catherine has been assisting families in special education issues through www.precisioneducation.com . As a previous special education teacher, a sibling to a wonderful man with Down Syndrome and a Mom to two great daughters, she understands full circle what needs to happen inside of a busy family home to stay toxin free. You can learn more about Catherine and her family story of how toxins impacted their family through a life and death situation on our About page.
Adults with Disabilities: Catherine Whitcher has a brother, Robert, with Down Syndrome. At 31 years of age, Robert and his family were still struggling for stability in employment. It was exhausting and the time had come to find a self-sufficient way to create income and have a positive impact in the community. Robert enjoys his role as “Uncle Robert” to Catherine’s daughters and assists everyday in helping them stay toxin free. In addition, Robert also makes natural choices for himself whenever possible. With Down Syndrome comes many medical concerns and in addition, Robert has diabetes. Mission Clean Kids and www.shaklee.net/missioncleankids is the right decision for Robert to take care of his health, continue to care for his nieces and build financial independence. Catherine enjoys assisting Robert in the leadership of his own Shaklee team and together they are teaching other families who have children (both young and grown!) how to stay healthy and build independence.

LOCAL THERAPY CENTER FOR DISABLED CHILDREN GOES GREEN FOR SAFETY
BDI Playhouse Recognizes Toxic Chemicals are Hurting Children with Disabilities
Orland Park, IL, October 28, 2009 – Children with disabilities struggle everyday to make strides in their accomplishments. Recent research proves that modern products are hurting our children’s ability to work to their potential. BDI Playhouse is removing the barrier of toxic chemicals in the therapy environment to promote wellness to their clients and families.
Serving children of all ages, BDI Playhouse facilities a wide variety of therapy for children of all ability levels. With current research showing multiple complications from environmental toxins, including cleaning supplies, BDI is proud to support a safe and healthy environment by utilizing Shaklee products in their facilities. Taking away a layer of neurotoxins, respiratory ailments and organ toxins can only help the children pursuing their developmental goals.
As an added benefit, BDI is also supporting the healthy change by contracting an adult with Down Syndrome, who serves as an Independent Distributor of Shaklee to provide the cleaning service to their facilities in Orland Park and Naperville, IL.
“Providing the opportunity for BDI to provide a clean and safe environment while also providing the opportunity for Robert (adult with Down Syndrome) to grow his home-business is an excellent situation. Robert also has the pride of helping the next generation of children and families with disabilities grow healthy.” -Catherine Whitcher, M.Ed, Mission: Clean Kids Founder
Over 1:13 children are experiencing respiratory illness in our country. Only a small percentage of the 81,000 chemicals on the market have been tested for human safety. Taking away the compounding effect of toxins being put into the therapeutic environment is a win-win situation for all involved.
