Mission: Choices on the Go

July 31st, 2010

We traveled this past week as a family, in a car, across the country.  Believe it or not we still love each other, had NO fighting, minimal whining and lots of laughing.  Even the dog came with us!

I firmly believe that one of the reasons we all stayed so cheerful is that we didn’t let our nutrition slide (too much).  We weren’t perfect.  We enjoyed wedding cake.  We went out to the local ice cream shack.  Ate too many carbs.  Should have had more veggies.  But overall we had a good time, avoided many food dyes, artificial sugars and didn’t need to stop at any drive thrus!

Here are two of our favorite snacks that kept us going through the long week:

Go Picnics are similar to a Lunchable, but without the chemicals, dyes and artificial “stuff”. The kids enjoyed the tattoos that came in the box too.

Hemp Bars satisfy the whole family with a great texture and aren’t messy like other bars. Did you know many mainstream granola bars have aspartame – we avoid aspartame whenever possible!

Mission: Clean Water

July 16th, 2010

Let’s just get to the point.  We need clean water.  Bottled water isn’t always clean and it the packaging is polluting the earth.  So what’s a family to do?

1. Install household reverse osmosis….yes, it’s on our family’s list of things to do.

2. Filter your current water to the best quality possible.

Thank goodness there is now a pitcher that can filter both lead and mercury out of our drinking water.  If you’ve been reading Mission: Clean Kids for a while then you know that lead and mercury played a large role in our daughter’s medical issues (seizures).  In addition, the Shaklee Get Clean water pitcher eliminates many environmental and industrial pollutants.  Awesome!

So here’s the deal:  You can get one year of clean water, PLUS 15% off all your future purchases from us/Shaklee for a lifetime for just $125 plus s/h/tax.    Such a deal!!! That’s just .24 cents a gallon, plus a lifetime of savings and incredible drinking water.

Just as an added incentive…the first 10 families who purchase one year of water with their 15% off membership for a lifetime will receive 19 servings of Performance (our incredible hydration drink) in your choice of lemon-lime or orange.  You’ll love the experience of clean water and quick hydration!

Pssst: I just ran a 5k yesterday in 90 degree heat with hills and reached my personal record time without any hydration issues….thanks to Performance.

HOW TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ONE YEAR OF CLEAN WATER AND 15% FOR A LIFETIME WITH A BONUS PERFORMANCE: Call (815) 302-1273 or email catherine@missioncleankids.com to place your order.

Mission Accomplished: No Asking for Garbage Food

June 14th, 2010

We just got home from the launch of the public library’s summer reading program.  On the upside, both girls are signed up for the program and I even signed up for the adult program.  FUN!

On the downside, most of the prizes are food based and I’ll have to come up with something to substitute with for my kids. Will it make them upset?  I thought so, but then I was pleasantly surprised today at the event.

As we walked up to the event, they had a jumpy slide, blue cotton candy, popcorn, McDonald’s orange drink and McDonald’s Hamburgers.

Julianne and Johanna announced right away that they didn’t want cotton candy or popcorn. Then came the burgers.  Burgers used to be a treat about once a month, but they haven’t had one in at least 6 months.  They looked with big eyes, but didn’t ask.

I walked over got one and gave them each a piece. Julianne ate hers, but informed me she didn’t like it.  She ate it because she felt bad throwing it away.  Johanna took one bite and gave it back to me.  I took one bite. ICK!!!!

Our taste buds in our family have finally evolved that most of the bad stuff is not a treat anymore! This is definitely a mission accomplished.  I will no longer fear substituting my children’s food in public…they now prefer the good stuff!!!!
P.S. What do I keep in the car on the go to assure we don’t have to go through the drive thru?  Raw food bars, Cinch Snack Bars, Fruit, Water, and a jar filled with nuts/cereals that I refill often for fun snacking!
