Mission: Whipped Topping Challenge

March 8th, 2010

Yep, we still make bad choices in our house sometimes.  Seriously, who doesn’t put Cool Whip on their pumpkin pie?  One of our family favorite quick desserts is pound cake with whipped cream and thawed frozen fruit.  Harmless, right?  Nope.  High Fructose Corn Syrup was lurking everywhere!

A few days ago while in Whole Foods I finally remembered to check out the freezer section where the pound cake and whipped topping would be in a typical store…there it was!  An orange pound cake and Tru Whip topping.  Now, the real test…how does it taste.

The pound cake was DELICIOUS!  Amy’s Organics strikes again with a YUMMY treat!

Now for the real challenge: Tru Whip www.truwhip.com

At first taste it definitely was not Cool Whip, but wait a minute…as the taste settles, it’s even better!  AWESOME!  Julianne and Johanna (my daughter’s ages 6 & 7 for new readers) loved their new dessert flavors and can’t wait until our next long trek to Whole Foods to buy some more.

Good things CAN come in all-natural/organic packages :)

Mission: Teach All Children About Food

February 12th, 2010

Jamie Oliver inspires us all to make change in our American habits.  Did you know our children our predicted to live 10 years less than we are? If you’re like me, you may feel the task of improving your child’s school food or cooking more at home may be too big to take on….we need to start somewhere.  Jamie’s realistic approach of home, community & schools pulling together to save our children is a great starting place.

Mission: Balance the Unhealthy Choices Yesterday

December 24th, 2009

Yesterday I accomplished the mission of cooking for seven.  All turned out fine (macaroni and cheese was not as cheesy as it should have been!) and we have the sweet smells of holiday desserts in the house.  The trouble is – I snacked way too much while baking!

So here’s the plan – I know tonight we’re having an awesome lasagna at my Mom’s house.  That means today I will drink tons of water and use Shaklee Cinch for basic nutrition.  No Snacking!  By tonight I will feel ready to eat the delicious meal and won’t have to feel guilty or stuffed when the garlic bread is passed around.

Now thinking about it…if I ate too many sweets yesterday, chances are the kids did too.  Now I know I told them “no” more than I told myself “no”, but I also remember saying “yes” quite a bit yesterday too!  So here’s the plan for J & J (remember, they’re 6 & 7 years old now):

Fresh Fruit and a Protein Based Smoothie for Breakfast

Fresh Veggies & Fruit sitting out to Snack on All Day

Cheese, Meat, Cracker Trays for lunch

The rule will be made very clear – No sugar or sweets until Grammie’s house tonight!

This plan should leave us all happy, full & NOT give us the sugar crankies.

So what’s your plan to keep the kids & family in check today and tomorrow as the celebrations continue?

P.S. That Shaklee Cinch shake I just mentioned above helped me lose 20 pounds since August without any drastic changes.  Definitely worth checking out Cinch to meet your goals in the new year!

Mission: Sledding and Organic Hot Chocolate!

December 22nd, 2009

Today our mission is easy! It’s the first real snow of the season and we’re going sledding. We just moved into a new house and a HUGE sledding hill has been teasing us for months. The organic hot chocolate and marshmallows are ready for after our adventure.

What are you doing to stay active this winter season?

Are you keeping treats in the house during winter school break, but watching the ingredients too?

That reminds me…before our sledding adventure I do have to run to the grocery store and get fruits & veggies. Yesterday we had a playdate and now the cupboards and fridge are bare! Well, except for the hot chocolate – YUM!

P.S. Don’t forget to check out our latest Mission: Clean Kids event on January 9th!
