Mission: Ask Permission

August 1st, 2010

Just got a phone call from the Mom down the street :)

I love that families on the block have gotten to know us well enough that they ask permission before giving our kids “stuff”.  Sure, maybe some of them think I’m overprotective, but if you’ve ever watched your child suffer from anything (an allergic reaction, asthma, or seizures like our youngest) you know how I feel.  Even the school nurse thinks I’m a little nuts!

The school nurse and many parents have asked me if I’m serious when I want to know what my child has been given to eat…even better if they ask before it is given.  Really is one Chips Ahoy cookie, one popsicle brand popsicle, one bag of doritos going to hurt my children?  Maybe not.  Maybe so.  What I do know is that the accumulative effect of all the chemicals in those foods can’t be good and if I don’t know what’s going in then I can’t be sure what’s going on with my child if they don’t feel good.

I know for absolute sure that dyes drive my younger one CRAZY!  Too much junky carbs makes my older one CRANKY!

I also know that since eliminating most of these things, with the exception of an occasional birthday party or bbq, our children have not been sick.  Not at all.  Sure the sniffles for 24 hours, but not really sick.  Do you know many families that have children ages 6 and 7 that haven’t been to the dr in 3 years?  (Yes, we went to get the kids physicals for school and yes, they meet all criteria for “well” children.)

Our family loves to help other families experience this same joy of being well year round. Are you ready to work towards your child being the healthiest on the block?

Mission: Choices on the Go

July 31st, 2010

We traveled this past week as a family, in a car, across the country.  Believe it or not we still love each other, had NO fighting, minimal whining and lots of laughing.  Even the dog came with us!

I firmly believe that one of the reasons we all stayed so cheerful is that we didn’t let our nutrition slide (too much).  We weren’t perfect.  We enjoyed wedding cake.  We went out to the local ice cream shack.  Ate too many carbs.  Should have had more veggies.  But overall we had a good time, avoided many food dyes, artificial sugars and didn’t need to stop at any drive thrus!

Here are two of our favorite snacks that kept us going through the long week:

Go Picnics are similar to a Lunchable, but without the chemicals, dyes and artificial “stuff”. The kids enjoyed the tattoos that came in the box too.

Hemp Bars satisfy the whole family with a great texture and aren’t messy like other bars. Did you know many mainstream granola bars have aspartame – we avoid aspartame whenever possible!

Mission: Know Little Changes Add Up to Big Results

June 4th, 2010

I’m sitting in here watching Johanna (6yrs old) sleep and not just because she is beautiful.  For the first time in over 3 years she did not get seizure meds at bedtime. We’ve slowly been able to reduce her dosage to what the doctor called a “homeopathic” dose in her system.  So in other words, removing it shouldn’t be traumatic to her system.

She’s only had one minor seizure in 2 years…the day she had the flu.  For all those moms who are tackling immune system issues with their kids – “I get it”!

To think of the journey we took to get to the peaceful state is almost overwhelming, but I didn’t feel overwhelmed most of the time when we were trying to get here.  WHY?

We made changes little by little and are now experiencing BIG rewards for our consistency!

We came from a coma, respirator and a diagnosis of the unknown for the future for Johanna and her survival or quality of life.  We’ve reached pure joy!

How could your family get from where you are to where you want to be?  Do you have a child with asthma, ADHD, or allergies?  Is your child already fighting a weight battle?  Maybe they have skin issues?

What ever your starting point is – remember that little changes add up to big results.

Don’t become overwhelmed with getting to the finish line.  Simply take the steps everyday to get there – you’ll cross that line before you even know it.

Our family is often asked how we got to this point in our family’s health and if our experience could help them – most likely YES!

How do you know?  A phone or email consult with me (Catherine) can help us find a starting point for your family.  This is NOT medical advise – you can get enough of that elsewhere! Together we can discuss:

  1. Your current family concerns (children or adults) regarding health.
  2. The current data on how everyday living choices could be effecting your current issues.
  3. Put together an action plan that could change the future for you and your children.

We were lucky enough to have mentors through our chiropractic office who took us on this journey and now we dedicate our time helping others make healthy decisions for a future full of LIFE!
