Mission: Get with the Program

March 31st, 2010

Are you one of those parents that feeds your children better than you feed yourself.  You still sneak the 500 calorie latte or enjoy extra ice cream after they go to bed.  Ah, been there, done that, but not anymore!

Since starting the cleansing supplements with Shaklee I have renewed energy & spirit to continue improving my own health and helping others.  See what I’m doing here.

I’ve had more energy and more hours in my day then I have in 10 years!  I simply WANT to get things done.  I’ve been able to make clear choices on the next steps in my life and that includes losing the final 15 lbs that REALLY need to go!

So I will only be eating what I would feed my children.  I will not set a different standard for myself.  I will be the role model they deserve in health, business & life.  Today is the day I Get With the Program!

Mission: Avoid Unnecessary Prescriptions

March 7th, 2010

We don’t go to Dr.’s very often in our family.  We simply don’t get sick enough…:)

February was a little bit different though.  Kevin (my husband) had me bring him to the ER twice for chest pains!  A bit scary at any age, but he is only 29!

Result: After first visit he walked out with a prescription for potassium (huh? You can get quality potassium without a prescription!)  After second visit they did a few tests and determined it’s probably more a digestive issue than a chest pain issue and gave him a prescription for an antacid (huh?)

Geez, I forgot how annoying it is to ask for medical help and simply get a cover up solution rather than discover the underlying problem.

What did we do?  After ruling out heart attack/stroke type issues, he went to the chiropractor and began a medium intensity exercise routine (winter made our family a little more like couch potatoes).  We also thought about his eating habits and he chose to avoid spicy foods overall and add in a great protein based breakfast for a good start to the day.

UPDATE: Here we are two weeks later with no pains, more stamina, healthier eating habits and NO prescriptions.

Our family recognizes there are times for the ER, Dr.’s and ruling out big problems. We also realize that nobody has all the right answers and we have to make our own choices.  As parents, we feel its our job to lead by example in our home and try everything possible to avoid quick fixes through prescriptions and work hard as a family to find the root of an issue.

Have you ever been given unnecessary prescriptions for yourself or your children?

Mission: Get Focused for New Year

December 26th, 2009

I don’t set resolutions – Do You?  Considering most people break their resolutions within the first month, I avoid setting myself up for failure.  However, I do set goals and revisit them often, especially at the new year.  A few goals we have in our home this year:

1. Continue to eat healthy and avoid the stuff we know is bad for us.  This includes trying more recipes with sugar alternatives, dairy alternatives, vegetables prepared in new ways, using the crockpot and oven more often and being more adventurous with our taste buds!  I love to jump on allrecipes.com!

2. Focus on the healthy weight I want to be and get more physically active.  I’m going to do much less sitting and much more physical activity, even if it is playing Wii with the kids.  In fact, the elliptical is set up by the Wii so I have no excuse not to participate!  I’ll be drinking my Cinch Shakes too since they keep me energized and losing weight!

3. Continue on Shaklee’s Fast Track.  We’re on Track to earn $100,000 in 15 months.  I’m not shy about sharing because you can be on the Fast Track  too! In fact, our only way to reach this goal is to help others who also want the health and finances Shaklee has to offer.  We’re growing our team in 2010 and focused on helping others – not the end result – we will get rewarded when we reach out to more and more people.  We are going to hold monthly conference calls and monthly meetings to meet this goal.  The healthy outcomes we’ve seen, especially with our families who have disabilities, is amazing and can’t be kept quiet any longer!

4. Enjoy the present more, appreciate the past and look forward to the future.  This goal will have to be a daily focus, especially since I have a habit of second guessing the past, missing the present and worrying about the future.  When I accomplish this, my whole family will benefit from a more relaxed Mommy!

Did you notice that my goals are focused on the positive, not the negative.  Focusing on choices for healthy weight versus focusing on limitations for losing weight is getting me to my goal faster!  Focusing on the money we are earning versus the bills that have to be paid is working better!  Also, putting numbers out in the open (Shaklee’s Fast Track $100,000 in 15 months) gives our family a clear picture of our goal so we can quantify our progress.

Do you think you can write a positive, focused goal that is quantified by a deadline or specific actions?  It’s tougher than you think and I’d love to see yours here! Come on you can do it!  Put you goal in the comments and lets hold each other accountable for good things!

Mission: Assure Mom & Dad are Weighing in Healthy

November 2nd, 2009

Yes, our site is mostly about making healthy choices for the kids and home.  However, we can’t have healthy kids if we aren’t setting a good example.  You may be like me.  I was raised differently than how I am raising my girls.  Which means I feel much more tempted by fast food, heavy starches and many other foods that I limit in our daily routine.  What’s a Mom (or Dad) to do?  Get on the healthy train!

My choice is www.cinchplan.com/missioncleankids

The Cinch Plan is realistic in not only helping with weight loss, but attacking the whole approach to weight loss.  Here is a recent tip from our online support at Cinch Club:

Like Yogi Berra once said “If you don’t know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.” Don’t let this happen to you. Setting specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time driven (SMART) goals from the beginning of your Cinch Program is essential to your success.

S = Specific
M = Measurable
A = Achievable
R = Realistic
T = Time driven

Specific

The more specific you can be the more it will help you focus on your effort and clearly define what you are going to do. Instead of setting a general goal to lose weight or be healthier, set a specific goal to lose 2 lbs per week or take off 2 inches on your waistline or to walk 3 miles at a challenging pace.

Measurable

If you can’t measure it, you won’t be able to manage it. Choose a goal with measurable progress, so you can see the change occur. Then pull out the scale, tape measure or smaller pair of pants and see how your goal measures up.

Achievable

If your goals are too far out of reach you probably won’t be able to make the commitment to accomplish them. Your goal should stretch you slightly but just enough to feel like you can accomplish it with a real commitment. Then when you do achieve that goal you will feel successful and feelings of success, not failure are what keep you motivated.

Realistic

Realistic does not mean “easy.” Realistic, in this case, means “do-able.” A goal of never again eating sweets, cakes, and chocolate may not be realistic if you really enjoy these foods. It may be more realistic to set a goal of eating a piece of fruit each day instead of one sweet item. You can then choose to work towards reducing the amount of sweets gradually and realistically.

Time Driven

Setting a timeline for reaching your goal (i.e. in a week or over 12 weeks) provides an end point and a clear target to work towards. Without a timeline, you’ll feel you can start at any time, and you’ll lose your sense of urgency. Telling others your timeline also helps keep you on purpose. Ask them to check in with you at certain dates to confirm you’re on track.
