Mission: Ask Permission

August 1st, 2010

Just got a phone call from the Mom down the street :)

I love that families on the block have gotten to know us well enough that they ask permission before giving our kids “stuff”.  Sure, maybe some of them think I’m overprotective, but if you’ve ever watched your child suffer from anything (an allergic reaction, asthma, or seizures like our youngest) you know how I feel.  Even the school nurse thinks I’m a little nuts!

The school nurse and many parents have asked me if I’m serious when I want to know what my child has been given to eat…even better if they ask before it is given.  Really is one Chips Ahoy cookie, one popsicle brand popsicle, one bag of doritos going to hurt my children?  Maybe not.  Maybe so.  What I do know is that the accumulative effect of all the chemicals in those foods can’t be good and if I don’t know what’s going in then I can’t be sure what’s going on with my child if they don’t feel good.

I know for absolute sure that dyes drive my younger one CRAZY!  Too much junky carbs makes my older one CRANKY!

I also know that since eliminating most of these things, with the exception of an occasional birthday party or bbq, our children have not been sick.  Not at all.  Sure the sniffles for 24 hours, but not really sick.  Do you know many families that have children ages 6 and 7 that haven’t been to the dr in 3 years?  (Yes, we went to get the kids physicals for school and yes, they meet all criteria for “well” children.)

Our family loves to help other families experience this same joy of being well year round. Are you ready to work towards your child being the healthiest on the block?

Mission: Hear This Mom’s Chemical Injury Story

February 10th, 2010

“My journey began when my three year old began experiencing unexplained fevers, joint pain, skin rashes, immune dysfunction, and various other health complaints. I took him to numerous doctors who did lots of testing….with no diagnosis. I was inspired by the author Doris Rapp, who’s book “Is this your Child’s World”, was profiled on a talk show.  I went through the index looking for a doctor who understood chemical injury because I believed my child was suffering from something in my home. I had taken him on extended trips and had seen improvement in his rashes when he was not in my home.

I made phone calls and found a wonderful doctor who was an expert in the field of chemical exposure. I took my three old in for testing; they did saliva, hair and blood tests. Within a couple of weeks we had the results and yes ….my three year old son had a diagnosis of Chemical injury from exposure to toxins. We then tested my other two children, my husband and myself…..we all had the same exact diagnosis. We lived in a beautiful beach town that was just paradise on earth, I thought. The doctor asked if there was any smoke stacks or industry near my home. I didn’t know of any and I set out looking. I soon found out that there was a gas processing plant from the offshore rigs about a 1/2 mile or so from my house. Our exposure was to heavy metals and solvents which matched up to the metals of the oil and gas processing facility.

From that point on my life went spinning out of control. I immediately moved my family to another home, leaving my husband behind to run our small business which provided income for our family. Not long after my family’s diagnosis the gas processing plant went public that they had underground storage tanks leaking and needed to do remediation. But of course their chemicals did not get to my property, nor did any of their emissions! In fact, they had neglected to follow the proper notifying procedure for anybody, not even the houses right next to the plant because magically, nothing ever left their plant!

In the years that followed I fought the oil companies. No attorney wanted to take the case because the oil and gas companies fight for years, and appeal decisions, and it could cost a fortune to pursue. Also causation at summary judgment had made it basically impossible for anybody to succeed. So I took them on In Pro Per. I had the help of many wonderful people like Mr. Benard Endres, a unbelievable expert in oil and gas mitigation. Dr. Gunnar Heuser also helped me with declarations of support etc. Mr. Winston Street who was the first person to successfully win a NORM case against an oil and gas company who had become an expert in his field. I had a wonderful friend who had worked for the Response Team for the Chemically Injured who stood by my side and helped me with gathering data etc. I was so blessed by the wonderful people who came forward, stood by me and helped.

At my second summary judgment hearing, the oil companies pulled an old judge (Judge Dodds) out of retirement, and I lost.  In the end I went to the appellate level and still could not over turn the summary judgment. However, the governmental entities (deputy health officer, Air Pollution and Control District, Water Company) all did declarations on behalf of the oil companies. I spent two weeks going through documents at the oil companies office and numerous people came forward with information to help prove my case, but in the end I lost the appeal. However, I did continue gathering information and soon caught the oil company in their lies by proving they had lied about the stack heights to change the Facility Emission Data, and later they had to admit that this facility does pose a significant risk from benzene to the surrounding community (after the appeal of course).  They also went on to find the property was much more contaminated than they originally admitted.

I now have enough information to prove “fraud” and one day perhaps I will go forward if I can find an attorney willing to take them on. My children still suffer, they can hardly go to school because of sickness and infections. Their immune systems are still not operating like they should and they are chemically sensitive. We have learned to live a scent free lifestyle and avoid chemicals and toxins as best we can. We continually try to help others understand the real dangers of not knowing their environment. I learned a great deal about chemicals, gas processing plants, the law, and the good will of others. I worked for years and feel I did have an impact. Thank you, Linda Alkasem”

Mission: Switch Brands

The Powerful Impact of Switching Brands in Your Life

The results have been amazing.  If you consider where we came from and where we are now, it is almost to big to comprehend.  Before I go any further, let me tell you where we started.  With two healthy daughters ages 3 and 4 we were living as most American families.  Our shopping list depended on what was on sale.  There was nothing better than a bargain buy.  While we were out running errands it was common to stop for a treat at a fast food restaurant.  No big deal, right?  Wrong!

At 3 years old my youngest daughter suffered an almost fatal seizure.  There is nothing worse then hearing “Code Blue” called on your child in the ER.  Well, maybe there is something worse.  How about at midnight being told by a neurologist that after 5 hours of seizing they have placed your daughter in a medicinal coma?  Her brain activity has been slowed to one blip every 3 seconds on the screen and her chances of coming back to us are slim.  Her chances of coming back to us with her full capabilities, even slimmer.

One month later my daughter had defied all odds and was functioning again as an almost typical 3 year old.  However, she still had reoccurring seizures.  Determined to find out what brought my healthy daughter knocking on heaven’s door I began to search.  Thankful for a team of Maximized Living Doctors, who never gave up hope, we listened and learned about toxicity in our bodies and reasons why my little girl may be sick.  It’s through this team we found out our daughter was lead and mercury toxic.

Now it was time for change.  Sure, we had our home, water and soil tested for lead, results were negative.  Without any other option I followed my mother’s instinct and took away as many toxins as possible in our home to let her body heal.  These are the toxins we are exposing ourselves to everyday while living unconscious to their harmful effects.

With the changes made to our home, removing the metals from her body through supplements and minimal prescription drugs, the seizures eventually became stable.  Almost 3 years into this nightmare, now turned blessing, the metals in her system are clear, she is taking 1/4 of the prescription she originally was prescribed and our home, supplements, diet and skin care remain toxin free.

The medical mainstream doctors pretend to not understand why our daughter has recovered.  Then during every appointment the door gets closed.  Literally, the doctor shuts the door and comments about our toxin free living and asks questions to learn how we have had such success.

Here are some examples of our doctor visits in the past six months:

  • The neurologist decided to break protocol and lower my daughter’s medicine protocol earlier than with standard patients because she sees the results in us growing her body and immune system strong naturally.
  • The pediatrician, who has a son with Autism, is amazed at our recovery story.  Almost 30% of all children with Autism have seizures and he hopes to bring the power of toxin free living to more families so they too can work towards eliminating seizures.
  • The eye doctor was pleased to find that no damage had been done to my daughter’s optic nerves.  He asked me about our journey and then shared stories of multiple patients of his that are contracting cancer from environmental sources, even their drinking water.
  • The dentist praised us for assuring non-mercury materials were used in our daughter’s mouth. He doesn’t predict any health issues due to dental work.

Through this journey of switching brands in our home we have eliminated neurotoxins, carcinogens, hormones, heavy metals and many more toxins which are known causes for disease.  It’s a true shame that not only do companies not have to list all ingredients on a product, but they definitely don’t have to tell you what the ingredients do to your health.  My solution in eliminating toxins was to find the best of the best and thats when I found Shaklee.

I do not have to spend my time worrying what is in a Shaklee product.  I know it’s been tested hundreds of times to assure it is safe, green and it works.  It’s a complete solution for my entire family for cleaning our homes, nourishing our skin and bodies, managing our weight and remedying ailments we have due to our mistakes in the past or the natural aging process.

From my brother with Down Syndrome, my Mom with Diabetes, myself with past Asthma issues, my husband who could use more energy, my daughters who need their Omega’s & vitamins, my friend who has Asperger’s, my colleague who is a teacher and has had her first child, we are all experiencing life changing results.

I no longer shop for what is on sale because I am saving money and saving my family and friend’s lives with Shaklee.  Spending pennies compared to traditional health food stores and having the scientific proof of Shaklee care is enough to let me sleep sound at night.  Whether Shaklee is following the leading research on toxins and safety or leading the way with their extensive health sciences team, I am confident in my Shaklee decision.  My daughter is living proof.

Attending Shaklee Global Conference this past weekend was amazing.  Our blog here at Mission: Clean Kids was featured and our mission was well accepted.  In fact, it was so well accepted that I was invited to meet Mr. Roger Barnett, Shaklee CEO and tell him about our mission to bring health to more children and the opportunity for big dreams to the disability community.
