Our family is mostly “mainstream”. We watch tv, we vacation in Disney, we work hard, our children go to public school…but the one thing that is different is our choices for food, health and home care.  We don’t go shopping in the mainstream aisles of the grocery store, we don’t give over the counter drugs, and we don’t try out the latest scrubbing product from clorox.

This may not seem like a big deal, but to our family it really is a different lifestyle that can make us standout sometimes.

Our kids are constantly asking if they can eat certain things when we are at a party or pot-luck situation.  We feel the need to compromise some of our actions when we are out so the kids aren’t too different from the rest of the children turning their mouths blue.

This weekend I had a meeting with our Shaklee team. The dads met at the house and the moms/kids met at the park.  It was so relaxing to prepare for this meeting!  I didn’t even have to go shopping.  We used the fruit and veggies I had on hand.  Whipped up a quick organic muffin mix.  Grabbed some organic help granola bars and even brought the treat of Annie’s Organic Bunnies (gummy treats).

I talked with the other moms and we are going to plan one of these outings once a month.  (Only dads will be with us.)  We will be gathering in pot-luck style and bringing snacks to share that do not have dyes, HFCS, preservatives or any of that yucky stuff that throws our system “off”.  How relaxing it will be to get together and tell my kids yes, yes, yes when they want to snack with their friends.
