• Mission: Snacks on the Run

It’s been one of those weekends, Saturday we had two play performances, a soccer game, a dance class and driving my brother (who as Down Syndrome) to his high school alumni get together.  There was absolutely no time for cooking, but we triumphed and avoided fast food!

Here’s how:  Before running around in the car I packed lunches just like I would for a school day.  Yogurt, peaches, raw food bars, and water w/greens (if you don’t know about this you’ll learn more soon).  Since we had a meal shake breakfast, that amount of food kept us satisfied until about 4p.m.  Then hunger strikes.

Fortunately, my Mom had heard an advertisement on the radio for a new deli in town that served all natural, some organic food and it was right where I had to bring my brother.  Score!  Jason’s Deli is all around the country and I highly recommend it for those who care about what they are eating on the run.  Just knowing that there were no trans fats or high fructose corn syrup in the building was a good start.  They then listed the 40 or so ingredients in the restaurant that were organic.  I choose the made-from-scratch salad bar and my one daughter (other at home with Dad) had a turkey and cheese roll up on an organic whole wheat wrap.  The pudding desserts where awesome!

Sure, it wasn’t what you would call a “perfect meal” regarding organics, but I’ll take those options at Jason’s Deli any day over a drive thru or standard chain sit down.

Remember, it’s a daily mission to stay as chemical free as possible and as a Mom running a sometimes crazy house, it’s all about the little decisions we make everday to keep our families healthy.
